Rob S - I chopped in my 955 S3 for a ST1050. I wish I'd kept the S3! The ST is a good bike, but it is noticeably heavier and no faster (but smoother). I got it because we intended to do some touring on it, but we haven't. My partner says the pillion is a bit better than the S3, but she sure is high up! This is my fourth Hinckley Triumph and I love 'em, but I think the build quality has slipped a bit recently. Test rode a Street Triple last year - wow! They are a seriously quick and fun thing. May get one next. Or a Tiger (a bit tall for me , though). Or another Speed Triple ......... Or sell a kidney and get a Commando 961.
Get a Triumph!Posted 2 years ago # -
I am spooked at this thread! Recently decided I want out of queing on the m3 and m25 and wnat to get back out in the air. First choice: triumph tiger 955i. Second choice Triumph speed four, and a friend is selling his monster on eBay right now, but don't fancy a naked street brawler for a 90mile round trip commute. So as you can tell, feeling kinship right now. Isn't mid life crisis fun!

My commutes have mirrored yours (M40 then M25).
You need a fairing, comfort and heated grips - last three bikes Tiger 1050, (old style) Fazer 1000 and zx9r all gave that.
zx9r
Good for speed, handling and surprisingly comfy (40mpg) - did over 50k
fazer
Never happy with it, badly balanced in that the rear tyre was always spinning or the front sliding - even with decent tyres - and worse in the wet... (45mpg)
Tiger
Its BIG, but very comfy, safe (abs) and very economical (55mpg) - drivers seem to give it more 'space' - don't know why, but maybe 'cos I had a white one.Posted 2 years ago # -
Commuting 90 miles megascooter every day - comfy, weather protection blah blah blah

Well... I didn't get the 1050ST. I had an accident a couple of days back and paid a deposit on a 2009 1050 Tiger instead. What can I say, loves me Triumphs
Alas I blew the new mountain bike budget at the same time... but it does have full luggage and I blagged heated grips and a price I was "happy" with! It should be with me a week on Friday! Next step, open the air box and snorkel, fit a high flow filter and pop a more free flowing exhaust on, should get it up to 1050 Speed Triple levels of grunt

br - my mate got a Fazer Thou after getting his 600 T Boned... he doesn't really like it either, thinks the 600 is a much nicer machine to ride! It's just interesting hearing someone else saying that they aren't necessarilly as good as many would have you believe.
I had a ride on it myself and just didn't like it.

Good choice Rob S
Z - a Triumph man also.

Just back from a trip to Kyle of Lochalsh from Inverness on the zx9r.roads were so quiet and dry.once you get out of town on it you soon realise that its a comfy bike for what it was designed for. Its just a pain at slow speeds around town or touring around the likes of Plockton just around the corner from Kyle! the sun behind me lighting up the snow capped mountains with a bone dry road up through Kintail was heaven.wild goats and deer were the only probs but all stayed put without running out onto the road..
just get a bike and ride it asap before the best of the winter scenery goes. ;O)

It is not a Multistrada, therefore you are wrong

Bit late but..
I love my RS and ride it to work every day( missed a few this year with the snow).
There is faster and nimbler and prettier stuff out there but as a tool its ace.
220mles/tank, 100+ comfy cruising(never seen together).
And if you do keep it a while they go and go( nearly 80k).
Sometimes its the only reason I get up for work - the ride in.Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm glad this thread re-appeared, we've just bought this Vespa GT200. Picking it up on Sunday.

Can someone please bash tj's head as hard as possible so he can get back to his senses... Scooter are not for motobikers factomundo. They are for loosers that have got cars and can't assume to get stuck in traffic jams. So with their big piece of shite, they can undertake you, jump traffic lights, abuse other road users and try to kill proper motorbikers. Last time I got in an arguement with one, lose my temper and dare him to a race. Not in town no, but first one to get to 'le col de la bonette'. Funnily enough he got his half helmet on and went his way. You just want to hit scooter people hard on the head until their brain fall out.Posted 2 years ago # -

Juan, calm down.
Having a rant with another biker of any kind gets nobody anywhere. United we stand, divided we fall. It's a bike. Pure and simple.
I see all bikes as equal, engine or not, auto, manual, foot change, thumb change, with or without a clutch, 3-27 gears, Gearbox, hub gears, derallier gears or no gears, plasic, steel, carbon, titanium, alloy, on or off road, lycra, leathers, goretex, baggies, or city suit, belt, chain or shaft drive, 8-38 inch wheels, knobbly, slick, faired, unfaired, new, old or ancient, full face, open face or smiley face......
