    We have a new dog.
    Adopted today.
    A huge German Shepherd.
    10 years young.
    He’s a whopper.

His owner died. Family didn’t want to take him on. So we did.

    He’s awesome!!!!

No, I won’t be running him around any trail centres.
But I will be letting him run me.

    He is big.
He’s only been with us a few hours.
I know it’s stressful for him, but he’s been a real gent.

An old neighbour had an Alsation that would jump up and put it’s dinner plate sized paws on your shoulders to say hello. I’m 6 foot and 13 stone, and it nearly used to knock me over every time. It was a mahoosive dog, but the softest, soppiest beast that ever lived. That one, despite the size, looks like a right softie too. I’m sure he’ll settle down soon. A few days of food, walk and fuss and attention and they soon realise they’re onto a good thing.

However, the other thing that stuck in my mind was the fur that used to come out it when it moulted. I recommend a new Dyson.

Old dogs are cool, whats his name – my 9 year old springer Brad says hi:

Yep he climbs in the pram – obviously when the baby isnt in. And yes I know letting him and taking photos isnt really responsible before you all start.

    Lovely. Absolutely brilliant.

    What’s his name?

Our old boy was almost 10 when we got him – he’s just so loyal, loving, and a true gent.

We’ll always have room for an oldie here.

    Congratulations.

    Thanks again everyone.

    His name is Rex.

We’ve been looking for an older German Shepherd for a while. We’ve had them before so we know how great they are like, though this is our first dog, and in true French fashion he hasn’t been steralized. I’m thinking it wouldn’t be fair to get him done at this point.

We’re really looking forwards to spending time with him.

    Love it!

We’ve just taken on a 8 year old rescue spaniel who’d been in kennels for over 6 months. Flipping mental.

Good on you for taking the ‘oldie’ route.

Brilliant, best post i’ve seen today. Good on you for giving him a home.
They make excellent companions. Couldn’t be without our GSD now.

2nd the fur comment, they lose an unbelievable amount of it. Plenty of brushing 😀

In 1976 we took on a long haired German Shepherd bitch that was an ex breeding dog. She was massive! I was six yrs old at the time and used to ride her like a horse round the Garden. Loved that Dog.
