0.5mm neoprene socks with a merino liner underneath. Anyone try this in winter? Warm feet or sweaty feet?

    Exactly.
Used to use thin socks with 3mm neoprean socks during the winter,
    worked quite well.

I don’t mind wet (fnar), so long as they keep my feet warm.
grahamh, was 3mm ok? sounds kind of thick with a sock as well.

SealSkinz do a great job so long as you buy them with not a tight fit.

I’ve been using Nookie Ti socks for years. Very warm in winter, a bit sweaty when its mild. I recommend them to everyone. Sealskins don’t work when its really wet, everyone I know says they fill up with water (I assume because it runs down your leg). Its nearly impossible to keep your feet dry so neoprene does a very good job of keeping them warm when wet.

I say they do work, even when immersed. I have tested this frequently because I wear them in winter for tramping through bogs with sandals (boots fill up).

The only way to get water in is over the top, and it’s a bit silly to wear waterproof socks and not cover the top to stop water dribbling in IMO.

If you have them too tight then you’re stretching the membrane and that may cause leaks.
