Any "natural" remedies THAT WORK at keeping the buggers at bay?
I'd rather not be covering myself in nasty chemicals from now until October.

try this, won't stop them biting but is supposed to be good at calming the itching afterwards.

I used one last year, not completely useless but I seemed to become immune to it after a while.
I made a few enemies in the office after "clicking" people, one guy nearly pissed in his pants and complained "it hurt" for a good 10 minutes afterwards
I thought Avon's "Skin So Soft" was the preferred method of repulsion, or have I imagined that?
Skin so soft works for me, doesnt get sweated off 5 mins into a ride like the deet-based stuff too. And it keeps my legs silky smooth.
Skin so soft?
thought that was for midges?
Skin so Soft has been proven as ineffective against mosquitoes.
And it's not a repellent - even for midges,
How predictable was that sooty ? Specially from you
Ithankyouverymuch.
I heard jam is effective, it doesnt stop them biting but rots the buggers teeth!
from my Oz experience either Rid on the outside or antihistermines (cant be arsed to look up the real spelling) on the inside or steriod cream. Failing that dress up like a bee keeper or move away from the little feckers
Not tried it yet, but Listerine is supposed to work well to prevent being bitten, less toxic than DEET. I find that skin-so-soft sweats off too easy.
If you've been bitten meat tenderiser in a water-based paste works well and lets you 'scratch' without the chance of tearing the skin open. Here in the US the mozzies love my british blood!

One of these would be appropriate for you:

Judging by the hysterical answers you gave about crime in London a few months back.
Hey, that's what happens when you live in "the" London knife hotspot, and had knives pulled on you, AND missed this because you overslept that morning Knife maniac
Hey, musn't grumble. I'm lucky enough to have the means to MOVE. I think there's a term for "people like me" moving out of the danger zones but I don't want to hijack my own thread..
Thanks for remembering me though
Deet in high concentrations is the only answer
As an alternative to DEET, many shops in the Highlands sell neem oil; I found it quite effective on several rides last year.
One of these?
One of these?
Tends to blur ones forward vision somewhat!
Great on Night Rides though...
make sure you don't mistake the 'feed' tube for your camelbak tube though
