    No, i don’t mean from a riding point of view . . .

When i first got my bike (secondhand), i’m gonna admit it took me a little while to work out exactly how to get the front wheel off, i’d never seen one of these maxle things before.

First attempt, treated it like a regular QR and just unscrewed it, removed the skewer. Obviously, that didn’t work. However, it did get me thinking – say you forgot to bring your cable lock with you, only had the d-lock to go through the rear triangle and wheel, is it possible to get the wheel off once the skewer is removed, or would that then be thief-proof?

no, you would just need to get a bit of metal and use the recess that the maxle lever sits in to undo it.
