Getting the kits via BCT and Troutie – Silly questions – do I need to:

A: seal the wires and can with silicone or will it be OK without?
B: Seal the driver and or stick it to the LED heat sink with thermal paste or is OK floating in the back of the can?

You dont need to mount the driver to the heat sink .
mount it to the can wall and make sure it is waterproofed
the driver wont like getting wet .

Time to resurrect this thread again as I now have some stupid questions of my own.

How did everyone go about sealing the light units?

I don’t want to simply fill the thing with silicone as it will be a right pain to strip down again.
Are the main areas of concern the screw for the bar clamp, the switch and the power connector? Can i simply take my time and try and seal these area on there own or will simply covering the PCB in silicone be enough?

Has anyone done anything about sealing the front of the light? I was thinking of trying to get a thin piece of clear plastic and an thin O-ring of some sort to help protect the optic and give it some kind of protection from the elements.

Bits to worry about are the driver wont like water .

switch is sealed from outside but not inside .
so best to try and keep water out of the case .

Leds and optic in my module are sealed so should be no worries from the front .

Cheers for the reply trout, obviously just my brain going into overdrive. I am more used to making stuff for the oil industry where you want to make everything as water/oil/mud tight as possible to help prevent the ham fisted operators knakering it by leaving sitting on the drill floor or in a puddle for some unkown reason.
