Does anyone else who uses Lovefilm have issues with the condition of a substantial number of their rental discs?
Too many of the discs are jumping getting stuck etc through being in bad condition. Mrs Rowley thinks its our dvd player but it never does it on any of the films we have bought just rental copies.
Its bloody annoying getting into a film only to lose large chunks of a scene to jumping or stuttering damaged disc.
I stopped using blockbuster due to that and the fact that they tried to charge us late fees despite us having dropped the film in the drop-box before their last collection. These days it's cheaper to buy the DVD and then sell it again on ebay than it is to rent it 
yeah good point. we stopped with blockbuster because of that (but Lovefilm are worse) and their £4 rental costs and the fact that they seem to have little in the way of older classic films.
I used lovefilm a couple of years ago and trying to cancel with them was a nightmare.
No can't say I have had that problem rowley, been using Lovefilm for about 2 years with a film a week. I have rented the odd shockingly bad film in that time but that was just the film 
TBH I would have been glad if the thing was jumping as it would have ended sooner.
I have found lovefilm to be ok - only had a problem with 1 disc but I dont like the fact that you get a random film and not one that you specifically want even if it is high priority!
Still on a 3 month free trial, Just had two disks lost in the post to me!
Never had a problem with skipping disks, but some do come with free Jam/muck on.
Not sure its recomended, but we cleam them with a baby wipe, dry them off, good as new
yes, some high proirity films have been on are list since we joined them and we seem to get a lot of low priority early steve martin films in their place!!
so is there a likelyhood it is our dvd player, even though purchased discs are fine, or have we just been unlucky with the dodgey discs? we had 2 this weekend that had the same problem and taking them out and cleaning them has made no difference.
What player are you using Rowley?
I've had one that skipped, but was just dirty- quick wipe sorted that. anyone want a free trial? help me get that free tomtom....
the princess bride was fecked when we had it. Two copies.
You tend to find more expensive/named brands tend to be better at coping with dodgy discs than others. I didnt like Lovefilm. I just wait a few months and get it off Amazon/Play/Ebay for £4/5 each. Once Im done, trade them in against other cds and dvds in my local Cex. You pay a little more, but theres alot less hassle!
not sure of the model but its a sony home cinema thing (has a sloping front edge, silver) about 5 years old i guess.
Nope. Hsve been using Lovefilm for 6 months and it's been troublefree.
In over a year of membership we had about 3 dvds that didn't get stuck or jump playing them on a sony dvd player. Utter waste of time and money. Nothing more annoying than having a film stop working an hour or so in. It sounds like some players may be more prone to getting stuck on scratches than others.
I've had one jumpy disc in 3 years - average of 2 discs per week watched!
I've sent back a few too many too. They're always really good replacing them, but that's not really the point. Older Sony player here too, as it happens. I think newer players have better error correction, but I'm not that inclined to replace it, since it's ok otherwise.
perhaps it is my Sony player that is sensitive to it then. it does seem to happen more often than not.
yeah i'm a bit loath to get a new player when all the ones i have bought play fine. Man! it seems a bit redundant most of the time sending replacements when you have already watched a good chunk of the film before it is ruined i mean do you watch the whole film again or just the bits you've missed??!!
