I working out a road cycle route from Dover to the Midlands.

Which bridges/tunnels can be cycled over or through please?

Or would you recommend a ferry crossing to the East? If so which one?

    Ta in advance

    Any use?

Gravesend-Tilbury ferry looks a good ‘un. Suspect you’d be at Woolwich otherwise.

London would be the last place I’d pass through from Dover to Midlands!

Dartford Crossing, they take your bike through the tunnel in a van and drop you on the other side. You just go to the office and ask.

Could you not skirt south of London and then up through Surrey / Berks, Oxon / Cotswolds? Most of the ‘Midlands’ are well to the west of London so no need to get too far east and have to ride through the hell that is Herts / Beds / Milton Keynes.

It’s a bit of a long detour going the long way around London isn’t it?

We are heading to N/E Brum.

Use Google maps route planner and set it to walking it should then give you a good idea of which route to take.

If you have to go through London then take advantage of the lee valley on the north side of the river

Join around Stratford ans cycle past Olympics site a d right up to hertford it’s really lovely knowing you’re in that London but feel you’re in the countryside. Have a look at the rafting centre at Waltham abbey as its quite cool and a good place to eat just of the river itself

I’d probably cycle up to Greenwich and use the foot tunnel for a laugh

What plumber said , either go to greenwich or take the woolwich ferry .
Either way,get to the Lee valley canal which will take you all the way to Hertford – it’s not road but decent condition towpath.

I’d go via Dartford, Brentwood, and Harlow, then up to Brum.

    Avoid London altogether.

    Plan B;
like I said before, Dartford crossing, only a couple of miles away from Gravesend. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
