I’ve had a few bolts work loose and was thinking some Loctite would be a good idea.

Which one do I need? Locations such as crank bolts and brake mount bolts.

    Cheers.

I use this one and bought a new tube last week from this chap on ebay:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Loctite-243-Lock-N-Seal-3ml-Thread-Lock-/180794200132?pt=UK_Crafts_Cardmaking_Scrapbooking_Glue_Tape_EH&hash=item2a182c9044

It’s always worked fine for me.

I’d go for nut lock as opposed to thread lock on the cranks, personally. I do at any rate…

Edit. Yeah, the one above – 243.

I am needing some too – that one is listed as 26Nm breakaway – seems mighty high ?

Loctite 222 for the smaller stuff, M5 and under IIRC.

Just use superglue on the thread 🙂

I’ve heard bad things about people buying loctite off eBay – basically that it’s been watered down to half strength. I suspect that 90% of listings are fine, but I’d prefer to buy it from Halfords / B&Q etc. One of the tiny tubes will last years if you’re only using it on bikes.

222 for me. Holds fast with a low breaking force.

222 on everything for me. Only need to stop them vibrating loose so its perfect, requiring 5nm to break loose.

I’ve used 222 on crank bolts and had them work loose, which is why I suggest 243. For perspective 5nm is what you tighten most of the controls on the bars with, which is easily obtained with finger strength. 26nm breakaway is easy to achieve using normal tools without resorting to hanging from a two foot bar.

243 on cranks. 222 eveywhere else.

    IMHO, of course…
