Have I got any options if I want to add a road size ring to LX cranks? I've got a 100 mile road ride to do and don't want to get left behind by all the guys on road bikes.

I ride my ticross as my winter road training which is sfitted with the "trekking" Xt cranks with 48-36-26 rings. When in road mode and not loaded like a tourer I just ignore the granny ring and it is basically a compact road setup.

The only snag you would have is that just swapping a 44 for a 48 and keeping the 32/22 rings is going to give you more of a jump between the rings than your frong mech can probably handle.

Mind'n pump your tyres up hard! You'll need to if you are riding on 2" or more!
