KS i850 adjustable seatpost any good?

Mate got one from a stall in Alpe D'Huez after his Gravity Dropper failed. He only wanted it to last the Qualifying and the Mega, but the clamp broke on the Qualifier and he had to do most of it with no seatpost.

Are they really designed for the hardest downhill enduro in the world?
Me thinks not, i bet alot of things broke at the mega.
Mines nice in a cheap kinda way.

Same here - though I've found the inner shaft is steel (which surprised me) and rusts if you don't grease it every so often.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I would still hope it would last more than halfway down the qualifier. These seatposts are supposedly designed for 'all-mountain' riding.
It's also VERY heavy.

its also nearly 1/4 of the price of the competition. If you dont expect £250 performance you will be pleased!
Like saying deore hubs are crap compaired it to DT 240s!

Well I only paid £95 for my i900 - which I have had a few issues with but has basically worked for a good few months including for the Mega.

the seat clamp assembly on the i900 is gash. Mine bent on my third ride out but I have replaced it with a cheap clamp from an ebay purchase (99p!) and now all is good in the hood. Not had any wobble or stickage.
The i950 is out and although it doesn't look as nice as the i900, the telescopic section of post is hexagonal (which apparently reduces lateral movement) and the seat clamp is much better quality!

Mines ok now that i've opened filled it with grease and put an innertube as a seal over the hex shaft. Depends on what your mate did to break the clamp. If it was a hard landing perhaps it would have been the saddle that broke with another seatpost

I also had problems with the seatclamp on my i900 but SuperStar replaced it the newer version which has a wider clamp section.
Hopefully this will be better.

Grumm where did you get the i900 for £95? I borrowed a bike with the remote version on recently, i thought it was great apart from very weak handlebar remote.

I had an i900. I had problems with the bearings scoring the anodised post. Happened twice. Replacement first, refund second.

I'm in the "evaluate the problem/current models" stage at the moment.
Running a Gravity Dropper on my bike right now. Not massively impressed.

I'm sure you've read the same reported problems with the current range as I have.
Do you think they can be solved? (I would say if they could, you would've thought someone would've by now - but I'm not that naive.)
BTW, Brant - whilst i've got your attention, I've been asking you on Twitter for months about your plans for a 29er. You given one any thoughts yet?

Ok, the i850 is terrible...
Perhaps it's my weight (12st kitted up) but the seatpost is not good. I've already mentioned that you have to sit on the nose of the saddle to get it to go down, impossible to do whilst riding I might add! Matters were made worse due to the fact that the bit of spray and grit (it was one of those Afan, it rained the day before and still wet on the ground rides) made it even stiffer meaning my 12st frame couldn't even get it to lower!
If I ever do something for production, I'll assure you of a hefty discount/proto testing?
Brant, if your offer still stands, you can have my i850 if you like for evaluation...

I've been toying with the Scandal 29er deals at the moment to run a rigid carbon fork, but not keen on the slot dropout so great to hear you're doing a geared only version as well!

The geared only one is probably going to be taiwanese 7046 - quite light - circa 1300-1400g frame. Good price too - sub £300.
First glow-in-the-dark sample landing in a week or so I hope, and probably raced by Twinklydave or Terrahawk at Sleepless.
There is of course the possibility of doing a geared only lynskey ti one, but right now, the plan is to do a run with their adjustable dropouts.
