So £40mil to cancel them is worse than the £20bn to plough on? Perhaps we should have a whip round to raise the £40mil

Unbeknowns to me at the time, but this lady cheated me out of approx £24,000/ £20,000. It has now been through the courts and it looks as if I might be getting it back. Presumably she needed the money to remain in the public purse so that her “expenses” (in MP speak that means fraudulant claims that are not fraud because of Parlamentary privilage) are met, porn films, 2nd, 1st, any bloody home she cares to mention, bath plugs etc.

If he’d gone to his doctor and shown him a pic of the wife, I’m sure he’d get porn on the NHS. The prescription charge would probably have gone through expenses all the same though.

Yeah ’cause Jacqui Smith is the ugliest 47 year old woman I’ve ever seen

Her husband on the other hand, is one handsome bast@rd

Clearly he should be dating some real stunners.

Ah, come off it. I bet it wasn’t the husband either. Their son is 15 IIRC! But they couldn’t own up to that, could they? Underage watching pron – AND on exe’s?

    CaptainFlashheart

    Was almost certainly the son!

She’s on the Beeb now, claiming that “some people have focussed on the detail of what I claim” as if it was a bad thing! Of course we’re focussing on the detail! You claimed for a £500 sink and an 88p bath plug FFS! Hardly things that allow you to better perform your job.

The link was spotted by Mike Riley…..

He contacted the BBC after visiting the Home Office website and noticing the link to the Japanese site.

Why didn’t he contact the Home Office? Attention seeking tosser.

in fairness, the sink/plug/toothbrush holder etc are the things they can/should be claiming for as its to help them have 2 houses. Even on a good salary having 2 houses, one of which is in london is never going to be easy.

Although 20k to furnish it per year! That takes the piss a little.

Should be an allowance to rent a 1 bed flat (i.e. big enough for them to stay in while working in london), it can be a nice flat in a nice part of london. But can’t see it being nececary to give them more than about 10k a year for it?

    actualy an even better idea…………………………..
They’r upping the cost of being a student almost yearly, give them whatever the student loan is now, minus whatever fees theyr making them pay, then tell them to live off that.

And ban them form employing family members as “researchers”, “assistants”, etc. If any other employer acted like that there’d be trouble.

Agreed. If my PA were to claim for smutty films on my expenses, we’d both be sacked!

would you really be sacked? I find that hard to believe as putting porn films on expenses is so obviously a mistake its quite funny. I had loads of expenses claims come back to me with a few questions when I used to claim such things, was never porn I admit but I wasnt even spoken to, jut asked to check it again. The checking of expenses for MP’s seems to be poor as I used to get them sent back if I forget to take my newspaper off my sandwiches recieot

    CaptainFlashheart

I reckon so. It’s clearly not a legitimate business expense, therefore to have claimed for it would be a dismissable offence, I would imagine (not to mention potentially being a criminal offence of fraud, but I forget the legislation!)

It’s a tricky one, certainly, but seems that someone either hasn’t done the “newspaper off the sarnie receipt” check (well put!) or the system simply allows for such claims as a matter of course!

Yeah but that is obviously illegal, forgetting to take porn films off a claim is stupid, not really illegal. Its obvious that no one checks what they are claiming well enough and so things slip through. So whilst flash is right it might be a case for dismissal but any employer who didnt want to sack the person already would issue a warning at most I would think. The worry is that the checks arent being made.

anagallis_arvensis anything involving porn is a sackable offence for a normal company.

To fair fair to the money-grabbing woman, I think she claimed for a TV Sky type package as expense and some naughty journos dug a little further and found a couple of prom movies on the costs. She shouldn’t be sacked for that.

She should be sacked for the other things she’s done…

Hora, do you really think if you were a valued memeber of a company they’d sack you for making a mistake on an expenses claim or take you to one side and give you a warning? Christ you must walk a tightrope every time you hand in a claim.

anagallis_arvensis, companies sack workers for inappropriate internet abuse let alone porn. Claiming for porn is seen as distateful even for those who enjoy porn themselves. Its one of those areas that are off-limits for alot of companies.

I personally don’t mind Porn however once we had a lad who visited a few sites on his lunch break (we found out after he left looking at the log)- if he had been here I would have wanted him gone- its a no go area IMO.

Valued employee or not- porn is a line that companies will not overlook.

In general falsifying expenses claims is seen as gross misconduct no?

“The checking of expenses for MP’s seems to be poor”

Let’s use a FoI/Web 2.0 approach – publish all MPs’ expenses claims to the web and hive collaboration will flag up the dodgy claims. If three punters flag it as suspicious, it is queued for re-examination, like ads on Craigslist…

“(not to mention potentially being a criminal offence of fraud, but I forget the legislation!) “

It’s the trickily named Fraud Act 2006 (England & Wales). Before that, fraud was a common law offence that could be prosecuted under a number of different heads, IIRC. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2006/en/ukpgaen_20060035_en_1

But it would require intent to be fraud, and to be fair even I don’t think that Smith deliberately fiddled the expenses on her fiddly films.

“Valued employee or not- porn is a line that companies will not overlook. “

Not true – companies will overlook a lot of things – some will still sign off on strip club/massage parlour expense. It depends on the employee and the manager and the industry and the circumstances…

Flash, you’re curiously quiet when it one of your blue-boys (or girls) that’s been caught on the fiddle yet you’re all over this one like some kind of nasty rash. Anyone would think you had a problem with the labour government or something…have I missed that?

Jeez, I can’t get over the outrage shown over the whole MP’s-and-their-dodgy-expenses thing in the last few months. What, eh? Politicians? Corrupt? No, never, surely not…there I was thinking they’re all cleaner than clean. How the bejesus can people be surprised when they find that they’ve been on the fiddle because, lets face it, some of them don’t get paid enough, and a system was put in place way back to almost encourage them to fleece the system for almost everything they can. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s hardly a surprise is it?

And as for the hypocrisy (including some on here, God forbid…) over a claim that had some films that you could hardly even describe as porn compared to what the most males with a broadband connection look at every day, it’s just embarrassing and ridiculous. How funny our European neighbours must find us, tittering at the person with the blushing face, cause, like, ahem, well it’s sex isn’t it…we can’t deal with it.

I’m sure there’s plenty of labour staff digging away furiously right now until they find the next tory knob who’s using his parliamentary allowance to pay his rent boy…there’s bound to be one somewhere, and then the t1t for tat will start again. Why aren’t there many LibDem MP’s involved? It’s either that they are indeed cleaner than clean, or maybe, just maybe labour and tories aren’t going to get much mileage by showing the third party up. Instead of wasting their time on this stuff, why can’t they sit down and sort out a better system? That’s what everybody seems to want. Until then, we’re in for a Summer of this shit – once they’ve gone home for the Summer and real politics isn’t happening.

once we had a lad who visited a few sites on his lunch break

Thats an entirely different matter and far more serious IMO

As for my old teacher Ms Smith, she’s not a rich women and she has done nothing against the rules. She uses the second home claim to keep her redditch home nice (if she was rich she’d move out of redditch ASAP my gran used to live there and its horrid) and use a spare room in her sisters house as her main home. I expect she’s paying her sister a nice income as rent too and good luck to her. She could have bought a £400 000 two bed flat in london and got us to pay for that instead and then made shed loads of equity on it. So I think she’s being hard done by, whilst at the same time thinking all these MP’s claims, whatever the party they belong to, stinks.

I’m not bothered about the actual content of the films. That’s irrelevant, tbh. S’just that it is a juicier meal for the media, if the films are raunchy. So what? Everyone looks at pron; only a few admit it.

Pathetic, really. The very journos that are condemning politicians are probbly out noncing kids of a weekend. Dirty coke-fuelled bastards.

I reckon Jacqui Smith must be doing an excellent job as Home Secretary, as clearly everyone now wants to concentrate only on her expenses claim.

I saw her being interviewed on GMTV this morning by some daft bimbo, and the presenter used the time she had with the Home Secretary to ask about desperately pressing issues such as the 88p bath plug ffs !

I can guess how that bath plug ended up included Jacqui Smith’s expenses. She probably submitted a bill for some plumbing work which she had carried out, and in the invoice the plumbing contractor had included the 88p bath plug. Needless to say, an eagle-eyed tabloid journalist with nothing better to do, discovered this shocking outrage.

So presumably people like the good Captain think that the Home Secretary should trawl through her expenses deleting trivial amounts and altering invoice totals because MPs should only ask for large amounts of money in their expenses ?

And unbelievably, the daft GMTV presenter again brought up the question of the adult videos, asking how Jacqui Smith was coping as a wife – as if the incident was divorce material ffs. The poor cow had to explain that they were dealing with it and say “we’re a strong family” 😕

Whilst I originally welcomed the breakdown of MPs expenses, I’m starting to think that perhaps we shouldn’t be told anything more than the totals. And btw, Jacqui Smith doesn’t claim the maximum permissible.

Still, it’s nice to know that Tory grandee Michael Ancram used his second home allowance to claim £400 for the removal of moss from the garden of his stately home.

What do you think of that Flashheart ? Tory MP charges taxpayers the cost of removing the moss from his stately home – taking the p1ss or what ?
