I’ve some Hope Mono M4 IS mount brakes with a 203mm rotor.
Does anyone know if there is an adaptor available to fit these to my shiny new ‘Zocchi 55 forks?

My LBS sold me a Shimano IS to Post adaptor saying it should work without going up a rotor size but it doesn’t fit. The calliper sits about 20mm of the rotor.
From what I can see all the adaptors for IS brakes to Post forks need to go up a rotor size and as I’m already running a 203mm rotor I don’t particularly what to do that.

Anyone have a solution to this that doesn’t involve buying new brakes?

Ignore what the current adaptor is fitted to your brakes, pretty much all brakes are post mount with an adpator to fit various disc sizes and frame mounts. If your brake is post mount, your forks are post mount and you have a 203mm disc then you need “Type 8 – PM-PM F203” from Superstar Components for a fiver.

My brakes are the older Mono M4’s that have an IS mount calliper with no adaptor fitted.

Ah, I see…in that case you’re a bit knackered! I’d try contacting Hope to see if they’ve got any ideas as they must have come across this problem before.

Pretty sure that’s right – IS caliper to post fork requires at least a 10mm increase in rotor size. IIRC Hope did do a 223mm disc for just that reason.

    Yep – http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/69/hope_saw_disc/hope-mono-minim4-saw-disc.html

from the superstar guide I think you need PM-IS F203 (Type 5)

forks are post mount and the caliper is IS for a front 203 rotor.

Superstar type 5 is for a PM caliper to IS fitting.

passtherizla, I think that adaptor is the other way round (IS forks, PM calliper) to the one I need.

Been looking at 223mm rotor but would rather avoid that if I can although I think it may be the only option. Problem is the forks are only supposed to take a maximum of 203mm and I don’t want to lose my warranty by running a bigger one.

The way superstar name their adaptors is calliper then fork then front/rear then size.

Therefore PM-IS F203 is for a PM calliper to fit onto a IS fork with a 203 rotor.

Mine is the other way round, IS calliper and PM fork.

yep realised what I was doing wrong… and edited.

ebay threw up some interesting results though.

they dont do a IS-PM F203 which is a shame.

idiotdogbrain, from what I can see I’d need a much bigger rotor with that one as well?

    “Enlarge your rotor 40 to 45mm (from 160/165 to 203mm, 8?)
    diameter for increased braking power!”

Looks like the only options are a massive rotor or new brakes and add then Hopes to my ever growing spare parts box

Managed to fit 203 IS hope caliper to my mates Sektors with the A2Z adaptor, had to file the adaptor a bit. Got it from Clee-Cycles

That A2Z adaptor allows you to use a 203mm rotor (which you have) on Post Mount forks designed to run a 160mm rotor with no adaptor (which yours are), with an IS caliper (which you have).

    Yes?

    NO!

A few people are missing the point that ‘IS caliper’ doesn’t mean anything if you don’t state the size of disc it’s designed for – eg calipers come in IS140/IS160/IS180/IS183/IS185/IS200/IS203/IS205 and probably other random cominations. With Post mount, all calipers are the same and you need adaptors to fit discs other than 160mm to a PM frame/fork.

    The KCNC adaptor described as

160mm Disc Calliper A dapter to mount a 160mm IS calliper on a post mount fork with a 160mm disc.
It may not fit all callipers to all forks as there is very little clearance on some designs! If it does not fit – it can be returned
Will also fit a 180mm IS calliper to a post mount fork with a 180mm disc, or a 200mm IS calliper to a post mount fork with a 200mm disc. You do not have to go up a disc size

    might/should work.
