As above i've just been to get a new spark plug for my lawn mower and the guy sold me an NGK one instead of the champion that was in the mower.
Any way i've got back and fitted the plug ,the mower starts and then dies after about 30 seconds ,so is it the plug or is it something else.
I've just googled the NGK model number and it says its a 2 stroke plug hence my question.

There will be differences depending on the engine type and size (insulator length, resistor or not, temperature range, electrode type) and one type will suit a 2 stroke better than a 4 stroke (for a few reasons) but assuming all the above parameters are close to the same there should be little discernable difference in operation.
I'd suggest that if it starts it's unlikely to be a plug issue, starting is pretty hard to initiate so if it's getting that far it's likely to be sound (unless the plug is coming out sooted to hell, and even then it still is more likely to be fueling).

You may find that the same plug is used in both types of engines but an engine may well need a specific plug. Won't matter which maker as long as they are the same reach and heat range etc
Have you checked there's petrol in it? 
If there is petrol in it chuck it out and put new in, then try it without the filler cap on (blocked breather) then make sure the fuel lines are clear and intact, then check the cables that operate the throttle/choke are free running.
Yep its coming out covered in soot so i just thought that it wasnt firing right.
