gambling its a bit like alcohol or drugs. It's just ' a little bit of fun' when you are in control.
I don't think it is inherently wrong - but some people will get addicted and for them yes it is wrong.

Did you go looking for this ROG, or are you just REALLY bored and got all the way through to a year ago?!
I got quite excited on this thread that fred was back, till I looked at the dates.
Yes.
No.
50/50 maybe...
I rarely go to casinos, but when I do, I have a system that never, ever fails. It works like this and does involve chasing lost bets.
Roulette. Pick a colour. Bet £1 on it. If it wins, repeat. If it loses, double it. Double every time you lose. When you do eventually win, you'll get your £1 back and be £1 up. Go back to £1 Obviously, you'll hit a big losing streak, but the odds are you'll hit a big winning streak at some point and you're unlikely to put more than £32 on the table. Once you're up enough to pay for a meal, say £20, pack it in the first time you lose.
But, most of the people I know who try this fail. They switch colours on a long losing run, or get up to their target amount and keep going or double when winning (it takes a long time to win anything, don't blow it all at once). What I don't understand is how easy I find it to decide what I'm going to do and stick to the plan, while other people just gamble and almost always lose. I never win a fortune, but never leave a casino hungry or worse off than I went in
Any other views on this? Any maths geniuses out there? Good work BBSB if it works for you, but I have to admit it all seems too easy to be true....
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. BBSB's plan is too good to be true. I speak as the ex manager of one of the world's largest internet casinos. We made huge amounts of money from people with "systems". As Einstein said, the only way to win at roulette is cheat
It seems to be surprisingly easy not to do it. Like I said, I've told people what I'm about to do, and they just can't follow it themselves. I do, it works, but you have to stick with it and know when to stop. get greedy - fail, panic - fail.
A single zero roulette wheel will pay out 97.3% so they always win in the end, if not of you - it's someone else
Just make sure it's someone else
But, most of the people I know who try this fail. They switch colours on a long losing run,
doesn't matter as long as you stick to the evens bets
A single zero roulette wheel will pay out 97.3%
sorry, but 97.3% of what?
97.3% of all stakes
i.e - it's fixed odds numbers betting, the house have a 2.7% margin
Apparently the best way to make tons of money gambling is online poker. As I understand it it's full of noobs mucking about and blowing small sums of cash for a laugh. Play enough of those games and come away with all their cash.
A guy I used to know at work did this and also studied football form very closely and made tons of cash. His pot was up to £26k at one point but he blew it all again 'chasing bets' as he used to call it ie trying to make back a loss. He learned not to do that and was back up to £10k or so when he left the company.
people can do whatever they like and whether a person believes something is wrong or not is down to their moral conditioning. Personally I'd rather leave gambling in casinos, slot machines, horse racing, betting etc to the greedy people.
Kev
Bloody-hell, how on Earth did this thread come back to life after a year? FWIW, it was me who started the thread, I had a flutter, won some money, lost some money and decided that I didn't have the balls to keep doing it. In the end I had come out even, but had wasted about 2 days breaking even and decided that the next time I wanted to lose 2 days for no money, I'd bugger off on the bike for 2 days!
Gambling is only wrong when you let it take over. I had a break in Vegas and thought it would be rude not to. I was there for 5 days and before I even got on the plane had allocated how much I was going to spend on gambling. I just saw it as the fee you pay for the entertainment I received. As it turned out I won a bit and lost a bit, for the 1st 3 nights came away about £100 down after spending 4 or 5 hours at the table, drinking for free and tipping the waitresses for 3 night solid. Bargain. The 4th night was memorable and I ended up about £400 up but that ended up being 7 hours at the table followed my many more at Crazy Horse 2, got back in the hotel just in time for breakfast with about enough winnings left to pay for it.
All in all a gem of a time and some truly entertaining nights that cost me no more than a couple of nights on the town.
You just need to know when to walk away. Oh and it helps if you don't take your entire student loan for a year and blow it in a week in Vegas like a couple of lads we met from Newcastle. Cracked me up but I cringe to think of them paying it off now!
