Impossible. You're a very cynical person, Joey. They're not called REALITY shows for nothing.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Copy and paste for those of us for whom it's blocked?

are you making wild grunts?

It's on the internet it must be true.
Posted 12 months ago # -
its an interesting article, dunno if its true or not. I don't doubt it isn't true, it describes exactly what I imagined would be going on, which is why I don't watch any of that "reality" bollocks or fall for any of it. In this particular piece though it's just words and no evidence. I would like to see some evidence, just so that the thickos who buy into all this crap will be convinced. They are not going to be convinced by an obscure article tucked away in nowheresville with no evidential back up.

Manufactured talent/ pop show manufactures contestants shocker

I got as far as
It's long been known that there is a quite a degree of "fixing" in BGTand lost interest.
Posted 12 months ago # -
Just read this myself, independently of here. Standing alone, there's very little to either corroborate or disprove any of it.
If it's true then it's shocking but not really surprising. If it's not true then it's just a particularly well-written Internet hoax; must be Thursday. Time will tell, no doubt.

Happy to say I've never watched any of "BGT" and I'm happy to keep it that way
Posted 12 months ago # -
I see no reason to doubt any of that, it's perfectly logical. To argue over it's truthfulness would miss the bigger issue and take the focus away from the production companies and their routine of manipulation under the disguise of reality TV.
After reading this article earlier today, and now the one above I'm glad I don't watch any 'reality' shows and think they are morally reprehensible.

The German version of BGT is ace though, when I was on holiday I saw a woman on das supertalent that crushed stuff with her boobies. They were big boobies though.

I'd respectfully suggest that if you don't watch talent shows but then still feel the need to read all about them on the Internet and pass comment, you're not as morally or culturally superior as you think you are.
Which is fine, y'know, it's nothing to be ashamed of, but let's be honest about things.

How Castaway made my life hell
But I decided to carry on doing it anyway.

These so called 'popstars' of today don't know how easy they have it. In my day you had to wear platform boots and sing the best Christmas song ever.

Hang on, if you don't watch reality TV shows, think that they're morally appalling, and comment to this effect you're somehow part of the problem anyway?
What did I miss?

Nope, don't think I'm superior in either of those. Just glad I have never got into watching reality TV. And equally I have no need to read about it, only today two articles have come up through looking at other sites.
Posted 12 months ago # -
I watch talent shows sometimes because they can be entertaining, but I have no illusions about how 'real' or ethical they are.

Thank god for youtubeAmazing how the judges take it in turns to have a feel of her tits - you don't get THAT on UK X Factor.

I didn't say they were 'part of the problem' (and what problem, anyway)?
I was suggesting that it's hypocritical to claim to be disinterested in something and then actively seek to pass comment on it. No-one's forcing you to read the thread. It'd be akin to me reading all the football threads and telling all the fans there that their game was stupid.
If you're not interested, why do you care? Come to that, if you don't watch it, how do you know it's "morally reprehensible"? How are you in a position to judge?

Cowell is not amused...

Isn't the thread title an oxymoron?
Posted 11 months ago # -
Well, no not really. While some of us are simply too clever
for this kind of thing, the issue of whether the whole thing is fixed is important. Surely you're not suggesting that anybody stupid enough to watch it and vote deserves to be hoodwinked like this?If there is any foundation to the allegations of the "sexualisation" of Ronan Parke, then whether a crap talent show is involved, it merits the attention of those of us in our ivory towers.

I'll call a spade a spade. I think they're shit, so I don't watch them. Any of them......Geordie Shore, My Big Fat Old Man's A Gypsy Dustbin, Celebrity X Brother On Ice, The Only Way Is Being A Chav....they're all unwatchable.
But how do I know they're not worth watching? Because I've seen the output (that appalling version of Halleluiah comes to mind), I've seen the odd snippet here and there, and they make me cringe. I see the tragic participants being interviewed and make my decisions based on that.
And if there's anything worse than the cynical marketing and sexualisation of children, I'm not sure I want to know about it. But it certainly meets my definition of morally reprehensible.
Does this make me superior? I'd certainly like to think so, but in reality it makes me feel very sad that there's such utter bilge being devoured by a mentally dead public. We get what we deserve, there's no doubt of that.

I certainly want to know about it.

Yes, I think we can see that much.
Posted 11 months ago # -
I certainly want to know about it.
What, you actively want to know about things which are worse than the commercialisation and exploitation of children?
Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
Posted 11 months ago # -
You're sounding a bit patronising there but I'm sure you don't mean to be...being all superior than that. If indeed a twelve year old is being sexualised (allegedly), then yes, I'd like to know about it. If worse is happening, then, of course we should know about it. Why wouldn't someone want to know?

I take it that everyone's read Ben Elton's 'Chart Throb'. Says it all in my opinion.
