basically my PF30 bb on my Epic failed twice in 3 months and now 3 times in 6 months, the 3rd one lasted longer because I spent hours after rides cleaning it ultra carefully and regreasing around the water seals to try and prevent contamination, plus I didn’t ride the bike much in the last 2 months,
so after I got back from a ride on Tues to find the bb was starting to fail again, a load of play in the rear pivots and the rear hub, plus the headset was going, I thought I would post up a pic of my bike in the workstand again on my facebook and ask if Specialized UK would like it in there cover pic competition,
Sounds like a dodgy Friday afternoon bike. I have an epic and it’s been awesome. Only slightly dodgy bit is the easier which is a bit gritty after 4-5 monthS
ha ha, i quite enjoyed reading that but IME you are not going about it the best way by complaining via Facebook. That should be a last resort for when the normal channels have failed. Brown nosing, unfailing patience and good manners are the best way to complain however justified a good rant is. From what you describe you may well have a valid claim although personally i don’t let muc off anywhere near my bikes – nasty stuff I think. Bottom line is its had the same use and cleaning regime as earlier Specialize bikes and they did not fail after 6 months (If i read between the lines correctly?).
😯 they really need to drag their Facebook monkey away from the keyboard

balls to that. They’ve had their chance previously so the OP is well within his rights to vent his spleen wherever he wants.

the OP has been pushing them for months and has posted on here about it more than once. If any company wants to use social media to promote their brand they should take the rough with the smooth. “facebook isn’t really the best channel” because its a public forum they dont want to be criticised on…
Get new BB for the bike and sell it. The thing is now tainted, badly, in your mind so any further issues will be almost intolerable due to the previous problems you have suffered.
Sounds like either the BB30 is pants or the BB threaded section in the frame is bent thereby putting extra stress upon the bearings.
Complain through the proper channels too. It may get results you want rather than some twitter monkey’ standard reply.
Unfortunatly PF30 AND BB30 are crap in any brand of bike, it is the one modern standard we have the most problems with durability wise or lack of it can’t comment on the other probs though.
Sorry why is Facebook not the best channel to resolve it? If they haven’t anything to hide, why not make the discussion public so we can all see what great customer service they have?

BB30 is fine if you use good bearings, same as anything else. It is just that most come with cheap bearings.
Nothing wrong with muc off plenty wrong with the press fits. I assume they would be more forthcoming if there was a solution. Cane exactly swap it for something that seems to work
I had a spearfish with a pf30 BB. After the SRAM ones failed, twice, within a few months I fitted an FSA one. Better sealed bearing on the none drive side and was still going strong when I sold it.
I bet they have to deal with hundreds of testy ham fisted noobs everyday, so you can expect them to snap once in a while.
No you shouldn’t expect that. You PAY them for a bike, they don’t do this out of the goodness of their own hearts. I’ve worked in customer service focused environments for the last 12 years and the approach is always treat the customer like they are doing the right thing until they prove that they’re an idiot. Even if they are an idiot you try to make things right within your boundaries, you never say “Hey, you’re probably a total muppet, not our fault” like Spec just did.
Hopefully their facebook moron is a one off, not someone following their best practice guidelines.
Interesting how had this been ‘orange’ or ‘cotic’ or ‘on one’ there would be hundreds of posts baying for blood, but specialised seems to have a protective jacket due to their alleged amazing lifetime warranty.
Serial orange owner here, also have a spesh fsr both running lovely
The whole chainset thing is a red herring and maybe spesh need to tidy that up.
Its not uncommon for spesh bikes(and others) to come fitted with hybred chain sets ie some bits of Deore some bits of slx. these are not imported in to the UK for retail. so if you needed to change a chainset for any reason you could not do a like for like replacement.
so it would be either void the warranty or have a unusable bike.
Brakes are a another one
would be good if Spesh UK would like to clear that up.

Why ever would you need to replace a chainset on a bike that’s been meticulously maintained? Unless you’ve had some massive crash and bent your original, in which case the ‘meticulously maintained’ point is questionable.
I think the OP’s been a bit of a tool to be honest, not sure Spesh have gone the right away about answering it, but you don’t come across well.
Have you checked if the BB area holds water? The premature press-fit BB failures on Lapierres were mostly down to water not draining from the BB shell and it needing the seatpost out and the bike inverted (this is a PITA now as I have a dropper post).
Do shimano 30mm axle cranks now?
I take it the bike came with cranks with 30mm axle? (if not why fit a BB30 and not use a 30mm axle to make the most of the BB30 system?) so to fit shimano the OP would have to use some sort of adapter to fit the cranks, so OP have changed the BB seal/crank interface that could effect how the BB will last, so spez have a point (a very small one)
It could be that OP or how fitts the cranks are putting to much preload on the cranks when fitting.
As said above I also think BB30 don’t last as long as normal BB and does not matter what bike they fitted to.
