Ground floor bedroom is soon to be study but it is very cold. One of the longer walls is external and always cold, will insulating wallpaper make a difference?

    Any recommendations welcome.

Yes if it’s 100mm thick and made of any of the following: polythene, fibreglass, hemp, wood fibre, straw… . If not, it’ll make next to no difference.

No its not damp but it has 2 external walls (one mainly window), pitched roof above and a virtually unheated space adjacent.

Don’t like the idea of 100mm think!

Not sure but don’t think so. Its an old house and the wall is really thick.

It won’t make much difference, however this stuff makes some pretty bold claims

Insulated plasterboard is your best bet

I would reckon either insulated plasterboard ( if you are short on space )

Or a decent thickness of phenolic board (kingspan/celotex etc) then plasterboard.
Reckon anything over 50mm will make a massive difference.
100mm+ is a Rolls Royce job.

Make sure all the edges are sealed and the gaps are filled tight, and foil taped as it Needs a continuous vapour barrier to prevent moisture getting behind the boards.

(Edit- only need the external Walls doing)

We used to call our back room the fridge!!

Last year I dry lined it with 50mm celotex, bonded to the wall (after tidying up the wall and sorting out the damp course).. All taped to provide a vapour barrier and insulated round the windows etc..

Bonded some plasterboard onto that and plastered.

Also put in the discrete heat skirting board radiators and it’s now the cosiest room in the house, 18 degrees pretty much the whole day according to the baby monitor with the heating on twice a day.

Bonding to the wall is a bit of a pain but we didn’t want to lose any more space by using a wooded frame.

    Totally worth it..

Thanks for the advice, I wasn’t too convinced that about 10mm would make a big difference. Prob best spending the money adding more insulation to the roof.

No space for thick insulation on the inside? Insulated render might be an option,60mm phenolic insulationthen rendered will make a huge difference.

If thats not an option ,have a look at Sempatap.

We just want to do a quick decorating job on the room so rendering sounds expensive.

Aerogel will keep the heat in – but you won’t like the price.

Not convinced about the sempatap thermal imagining – seems to have also done the windows and even the hedge outside!
