Well, we decided to try it first but nearby place wants £55 per person! Seems almost cheaper to buy one, try it and flog it if we don't like it much.
I know I'll like it as I used to canoe (kayak actually but we all called them canoes in them days) as a kid but daughter hasn't and wife might be scared.
Can anyone here be kind enough to give some canoe advice please?

Just do it but having checked out the risks and learned the limitations of the beast on relatively safe rivers.
General risks are tree braches you can get stuck under and drown (as happened to a lady we used to race against), currents taking you where you'd rather not go, find a specialist forum... .
Problems specific to the Sevylor (we have an older version of that) compared to a normal canoe/kayak are that they fill up with water very easily in white water and become unweildy beasts.
