For once I'm due a tax refund from my last tax return; I've always had to pay by end of Jan when I owe them but not heard anything about what I'm owed; are they using me to help with the funding gap?

Should be automatic, but it'll no doubt involve some manual input. This is obviously a very busy time of year for them. At the beginning of February, I sent in a letter about a tax refund I am due and I called last week to get some idea of when it would be resolved. I was told they wouldn't even get to my letter until mid-March.

Could be that they are checking it manually.
I did my online return last year at the same time as a collegue.
We were both owed the same amount. He had his repaid in his account within the week and mine took a month. When I rang it was because I was a pulled out as a 'random' check
