How do i switch on SSL in my browser?

Should be on already on sites that use it. Which browser?

Type https:// instead of http://
If the site doesn't support it then you'll get an error.
But really it's up to them, not you. Any site that wants to be secure will redirect you to https and they'll have set themselves up to tell your browser to use security. Their decision not yours, mostly.

If you are trying to hide what you are browsing from someone you can always use a secure proxy.

Websites will have it enabled if they support said technology.
Don't worry about it - you can rarely turn it on/off as such.
Sites like FB, GMail and a handful of others have the option to enable it site-wide, not just at the login.
And the websites content will still be cached locally

Some (all?) browsers will also show a little lock in the status bar at the bottom of the page if it's a secure connection.

Firefox goes further and puts the certified name of the site in the address bar.
And (if you are feeling geeky) you can click on that and see details of the sites identity.

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Do Not Save Encrypted Pages To Disk (is unchecked by default)
FF3+ caches SSL in memory, but can be configured to store to disk.

Thanks folks.I noticed it at the bottom of a shop in Aberdeen.Ive never read "make sure your ssl is switched on" before. I dont think i`ll be buying but i fancied to check it out before doing anything i would regret.

The latest browsers will do as Graham says, earlier ones will show the padlock in the status bar.
"Make sure your SSL is switched on" is cobblers unless it's meaning "verify that it's secure" - there's nothing to 'switch on'.
