I'm throwing a muder mystery do tomorrow. Well, in theory I am, but don't really know what I'm doing. I've had a quick look to see what good scenarios there are on the interwebs but you have to pay for them all, which strikes me as odd.
Anyone got any recommendations for free ones? And any tips on what'd make it really good. I've never been to one so have thrown myself in at the deep end.
Murder someone and don't tell anybody

We did one round a friends house a few years ago. If you host then you can cast the characters. Our friend cast her ex as the adulterous flirt lol!!!
I went to one a few years back, great night, ours had scripts for each guest and a tape to play with the detectives voice. Its probably like everything, you get what you pay for, it'd take ages to write your own and it'd be pretty boring night, and no real mystery, if you already knew the ending! They usualy work by having a 5-6page booklet, one page before/after each course of the dinner, there's bits of script to act out, lines of questioning to follow, facts you have to give out, other bits you only give if someone asks, and the detective on the tape gives all the instructions as you need them so theres no need to sit down and explain rules.

I think I underestimated the amount of work needed for this! I probably don't have enough time to prepare this and make it good, so anyone got any ideas I could use instead? Everyone'll be dressed up all 20's.
The idea is I have academic kids and have to look after them and be in charge and throw a party for them (uni's wierd, eh?).
Yes! my idea is don't make promises to people if you can't be bothered to keep them.
Inviting a load of people to an event, getting them to make a load of effort spending money, time and effort to dress in costume and then turning round and saying "its off (because I could not be bothered to spend any money myself, even if you have, or make any effort at all myself for that matter) so all your efforts are wasted" is pretty rubbish and selfish, particularly if you are letting down young kids.
I hope you feel bad, cos you deserve to.
They were told it was just an idea and fancy dress applies either way.
