    3' x 3' x 1' Stone trough weighing about 600kg.

I need to move it about 12' to a position by the house wall. A Hiab hasn't got the reach

    Ideas?

Ask Ton, he might do it.
Failing that, get 2 wide planks & some short scaffy bars & roll it. You might have a job rolling it just on the grass, hence the planks.

Just pick it up? Are you some kind of pussy? Lift from your back, not your knees. You also have a higher chance of lifting it if you use sharp, fast jerking motions.

I moved some chuffing huge tree trunks across our garden by sliding them stonhenge/caveman style across the garden. Used two big bits of wood as "runners" and sort of levered it to slide along them.

Yup. It's so contrived, it makes me want to find him and punch him right on his nose.

It would be OK if it was either funny or clever. It's neither, just embarrassing.

    rollers idea as above,
linear poles, greased, block and tackle to pull
    – take a while but – trolley jack and rope lift one end, swivel as far as you can, down, other side, repeatez etc (can do this with levers as well, man on each side levering up swivelling on edge etc etc)
    – can you get it up on one end and walk it on the corners

I think you need to sort out your priorities to be honest. The lawn for starters. That house sold sign is the wrong way around too. That flowerbed could use some work, and the wall a good scrub.

    Then what pigyn said.

When we were trainees they had us move 3/4 ton transformers by hand. Rollers are the way but there is a knack. You only need two rollers (inch diameter steel bars are probably best), plenty of wooden planks to spread the load and a couple of mates so you don't struggle – couple more steel bars as levers can help. The real issue will be getting it on to the rollers in the first place – we used little hydraulic jacks, but transformers have lifting points.

Is there an engine hoist big enough you could hire?
Lift, swing around, put down. Repeat as required.
