Not too sure how cheap they'd be, but Cathedral Road is the main B&B street. Depending where you stay you're a 1-5 min walk to town. Could try Cayo Arms or The Beverley. You're probably just as well off looking up a lastminute.com search for The Mariott on Mill Lane or the Travel Lodge on St Mary's Street - both slap bang in the middle of town and a stone's throw from Central Station. Sleeperz has just (ish) opened which is meant to be a budget stay next door to the station.
