afternoon all.
just changing the cassette over on my Hope Pro 3's and after removing the cassette the whole hub body came out, so I re-assembled it and now the cassette doesn't rotate freely, and the chainset continues to move under pedalling when in the stand!
Any thoughts as to why? This hub has not done this before and it's less than a year old...

Missing a spacer? The usual culprit.
There'll be a spacer missing.
As above or You hav'nt re-seated the freehub seal.It's more to do with IQ than the age of the hub.

Sounds like a broken axle?
When you say the whole hub came adrit did the pawls & springs from the freewheel fall out? Did you reassemble them back into the freewheel/hub?
Had 2 axles on different wheels break on me last year!!!

It's seated perfectly, so much so that it spins as it should when the seal isn't put it, add seal and it doesn't spin as it should.
Seeing as I didn't expect for it to come out like it did, do I need to be looking for a spacer that's fallen out where I've been working...?! I shall go and check.
The freehub came out, with the cassette attached (due to it digging into the alloy body.. :roll:) no parts actually fell off or anything like that, so it isn't broken as such.

Take it off again and see if the axle is in 2 bits ie a piece sticking out of either end of the hub?
Look at the drawing on my other posting. Is the collar nbr 12 in place? That can be loose, fall off but usually means freehub disintegrates and springs & pawls end up on the deck/grass/boot florr etc!!!
Not taken the pro2 / pro3 range aprt but in the old XC range there was 14mm (maybe 15mm) metal collar that sat on the axle between the hub bearing and the freehub. SOunds like that's missing

Item 5 on the drawing above?
you may have damaged the seal removing the freehub - we'd usually suggest replacing that when servicing anyway. There's a steel spacer in between the freehub body and the driveside hub bearing, if that's missing, the hub will work fine, until a QR tightens the whole thing against itself.

The axle isn't broken.
Cheers for the diagram, from looking at that I can see that this is all intact, but item 12...the driveside spacer, it's this spacer that is causing the cassette not to move freely.

oops, should've posted as 18bikes. buzz if you're stuck and want some advice.
wheel in hands > spin cassette allowing wheel to spin freely > add driveside spacer > wheel slows significantly.

That smaller washer is in the correct place, but is right against the bearing so doesn't fall out freely like in the strip/rebuild vid: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdgUvv76H28&feature=channel_video_title)
Paddy - if you're still having a problem check the inner face of the QR adapter.
My Pro iii had the same symptoms as yours. Turns out the inner bearing race (in the freehub) had "eaten"/ worn into the alu of qr adapter. This means the adapter was made to squueze onto the rubber bearing seal - thus the drag and the symptoms. Off the bike it was perfect.
The replacement part from hope is a significantly different shape to the original and cured my problem.
However I'd still say the points above are most likely problem.

But if you think there is no spacer missing, I think it is the seal, you need a tool to "seat" it correctly.
Morning, and thanks all. The wheel is now functioning as intended.
The 'drag' in the cassette was caused by the large washer inside of the pawls not being far enough back into the hub body, in the video guide it mentions of a click that is needed to seat it correctly, however by just going round this washed with my nail it eventually clicked into place, thus allowing the driveside spacer not to interfere with the other bearings inside the hub body.
Tested it last night and all seems fine.
