Having blown the shock on my full suss, geared XC bike I may have to do this on my fully rigid SS and was wondering if I will die.

    Any advice?

I did it last year & came 21st. It’s not bad at all actually – 32:16 ratio. There were some parts you just couldn’t ride/was quicker to walk. They were very short and steep kickers usually proceeded by a very slow bit. The vast majority is great on ss – some bits very good as it’s that thick claggy mud, the bike just keeps working.

Cheers – fully rigid, single speed, fixed it is then.

What’s the accommodation / camping like?

Am I meant to have booked anything?

Yes. Stay in central Manchester. Ride to the race.

whatever tyres you have on the bike will be as good as anything else. the mud is thick and also like paste so it welds to the tyre until the 26ers are 29ers

Think I’ve decided to ride my SS as it will be lighter to push up the hills.
