Oldgit and son of oldgit are getting a bit depressed.
My race season is well behind from an accident at Christmas and then the ribs on Good Friday.
And last night my son came second last after getting 1st and 2nd before, though his cast only came of his leg on Monday.
My first race of the year is now early May, and as I still can’t ride that looks in doubt.
So please, lets here your tales of woe.

Broke my collar bone & wrist last sat at Llandegla – would’ve been doing MTB pub crawl on 3/5, but hopefully will be doing Scottish C2C 20/5.

    Tip;

If what you’ve read doesn’t make sense, try rereading it. Maybe it’s you that has misunderstood. 🙂

Sorry to hear that – what happened?

I’ve had a bad shoulder which doesn’t seem to be getting better a few months later – doesn’t stop me riding though thankfully.

Not on the same scale but I had a crash the other day where I cut up my legs quite badly, broke my brand new spesh adaptalite glasses and broke off my propedal lever.

    D’oh! *pours coffee*

I still say you shouldn’t have any expectations 2 days after getting a cast off. When I had one removed from my elbow I could barely move it

I could but it makes me cry to tell it over again…..but think jobless, homeless and losing a dream women, flat broke, only thing keeping me sane was seeing my kids and riding lots, getting fitter and stronger…then snap! one broken collar bone..no prospects of getting or doing work for a while..feeling utterly sorry for myself and wondering how the hell i keep the men in white coats away…..

    Kids and friends rule!

    Bloody hell Sharki.

Guess many decent folks were impaled by Vlad, so it can always be worse.

9 weeks since I’ve been offroad following a broken collar bone. I’ve got a final assesment on the 1st of May where the docs will decide if I need an operation to remove some of the bone that’s protruding.

sharki – you can’t even get your guitar out an play the blues can yer?
I’ll get mine out and play some for you.

grumm – 2003, shoulder modified forever. Had to give up all hope of becoming a trapeze artist or javelin thrower! I can still ride my bike OK, but I’m not as good as I was on technical stuff.

xcstu – what about endurance canoe racing?

I “modified” (separated) both my shoulders about six weeks ago, in one big crash – the left one when I did my best Superman impression into a sizeable tree, hitting it about seven feet off the ground and the right one (the worse of the two) presumably when I slammed down on the ground afterwards. Although I remember all too clearly the pain of hitting the tree, mercifully I don’t recall much about landing afterwards…….

So, they still hurt like hell sometimes (most of the time…), at my age (57) they’re buggered for the rest of my life and although I’m back riding my bike, my mojo seems to have deserted me and I feel like I’m destined to mince every drop-off and technical descent from now on. I’m crap on a singlespeed now too, cos’ that uses your shoulders more…..it’s all bollocks really.

    Stu – that’s the spirit!

    Now, have a look here…
    http://www.bcu.org.uk/our-sport/marathon-racing/

There’s a race calendar there too. Plenty of races. I like the sound of this one…..

    Devizes – Westminster
125 miles. Fifty four miles on canal, fifty four miles on the Thames and 17 miles
tideway with 76 portages. Non-stop for senior doubles. Junior doubles and singles race in 4 stages over 4 days.

That should keep the weight off eh?

    SB 🙂
