I bought a headset press in between trains on the way to a job in London yesterday, as you do, and today I have to fly home.

I have read the regulations pretty carefully, but nothing particularly says anything about this kind of tool. There is a section that mentions ‘tradesmans tools’ in the ‘sharp items’ part.

Id normally swallow the charge to check it in but

1) easyJet won’t allow me to add luggage online because I have multiple flights (15) on one booking and their ‘system’ doesn’t cater for people, like me, who travel a lot and want to randomly add bags. This means I would have to pay the extra charge at the airport to send it through baggage.

2) Would you really want to send a single box containing a specialist tool by itself through the baggage system?

3) I have just had one of my bikes powder coated and am desperate to build it when I get home for an enduro event tomorrow.

I reckon there is no way that the press will make it in as hand luggage as it could be deemed as a weapon. I’ve tried to get to bike stuff in as hand luggage but failed for the above reasons.

I wasn’t allowed to take a small multi-tool with me because I might “undo the aircraft” with it. I imagine that they’ll pull the “weapon” line with a headset press and not let it onboard.

I once carried a camelback onto a plane up to Edinburgh, and only on the flight back down realised I’d had a gerber and multi tool in the pack the whole time.

Just dont pack your alarm clock next to your plasticine

It’s a tool, you run the risk of losing it if you try to take it through in your hand luggage. Post it home.

I was 4kg over coming back from Oz, they wanted A$280 in excess baggage, went to the post-office in the airport and sent the extra back for A$76, arrived home about two days after I did.

Yep; train fail+ security at defcon2 = missed flight.

After being rejected from security I missed the check-in window so I took my laptop and iPad out, stuck my little carry on in check-in and jumped on the next flight.

I reckon I could have sweet talked them if those bombs hadn’t been sent via air last week.

I suppose it is the kind of thing you would use to pry open a door/hatch!
