I am trying to set my spacing of gears etc on my handle bars, But i just keep moving stuff about! Sounds stupid but how do others set ups look? (as i need to set mine up to feel!)
    Gear inboard or outboard etc?

grips, gears, brakes. one finger braking is all you need.

Gears outboard and not in the way, one finger braking.

With the gears I took the mounts off each lever and swapped them over to the other leaver to allow the gear mounts to be next to the brake mounts. Like this :

Slowly getting used to 1 finger braking. A bit like left foot braking in the car to start with, but certainly better.

Also angled brake levers higher to lower wrists. Not quite convinced yet, as more difficult to bend arms outwards.

I must be one of the weirdos who prefer it to be grips, brakes shifters then.
Might try it the other way on the bike that has hinged lever clamps, but CBA with faffing around that much TBH.

Grip > Gear > brake > stem < uppy downy seatpost remote < brake < grip

just to be slightly different 🙂

Bar end, grip, Rohloff twistgrip, brake lever, map board, GPS mount.
    It’s the only way.

My brakes are set quite high in that “it makes your wrists go lower to bring your weight inside the bars” thing.

Makes no difference as I still can’t ride really steep stuff without my a$$ going, ah well !

wiiiiiiiiide bars, with very big hands, so brakes a long way inboard. Interestingly, also got massive feet, so you can imagine my, and others’ I dare say, disappointment that I’m not dirk diggler. 🙂

Shifters are at the right placement, just can’t get the height right as they interfere with brake resevoir. poo. Matchmakers may work?

    Grip – Shifter – Brake – Stem – Brake – Shifter – Grip

    It’s a winning combination!

Ok, these’ll be of no use whatsoever, but for amusement if nothing else:
(I know the bar-tape is badly taped on, it’s one of my specialities).

Err, just brakes on the SS …(beard not shown)

and elsewhere – brakes then bar-con mounted Dura-Ace bar-end shifters.

Everything else is on drops, geared versions are Dura-Ace bar-end shifters, Cane Creek Drop V levers, then Cane Creek cross-top levers, SS is the same (apart from not having shifters of course 😕 ).

Matchmakers are ace. Have brakes quite far inboard and one finger them. If I have grip, shifter, brake then I accidentally knocking the shift levers, not often but enough to be annoying. If I have grip, brake, shifter then shifters are a pain to reach. Just right with matchmakers.
