Off to a festival in the north of Germany at the weekend and have a couple of days staying in St Pauli, Hamburg either side.

Anyone have any recommendations for interesting stuff to do/places to eat & drink in the city?

The fishmarket on sunday morning is well worth it, live bands banging it out at 7am in an old glass warehouse.

the red balloon club is an excellent strip club…very good value…

St Pauli’s dead handy for the Fishmarkt, as thepublican says a cracking spot on a Sunday morning.
Anywhere down the Reeperbahn will be a good giggle, pretty much. Down Grosse Freiheit is where the Beatles started their fame, and there’s a few good bars there as well as the Betty Ford Clinic (also a bar, humourously). The Pulverfass (Powderkeg) is also good for a laugh, transvestite cabaret bar.
Herbertstrasse is the equivalent of the Oude Zijds in Amsterdam, good spot for a bit of window shopping, so to speak…

+1 for the Fishmarket. A lot of people go there straight from a night out. As for a night out you have to try the Reeperbahn, just for the spectacle if nothing else!

In the day time the centre of Hamburg is really nice, around the Alster (the big and little lakes in the middle) is nice. Also take a trip back down to the river front on the U bahn or S bahn.

If the weather is good there are loads of outside beach bars down by the river, sounds wierd but its cool sitting having a beer in the sun with sand under your feet watching the huge cargo ships unloading accross at the docks.
