My new Black Sheep frame arrived today so I quickly swapped all the stuff off the Half Fat Monkey to get it ready for a ride out tonight.

Think your tyres might be a bit skinny there – have you considered getting slightly larger ones for better grippage? Also, your lawn needs tidying and your bike appears to be stuck halfway up a tree.

All that said, it’s really not as fugly as it would seem…. 🙂

Just got back from a ride on my 1/2 fat bike – the fat tyre just puts a smile on my face 😀

I have been thinking about getting a truss fork built for it.

Might make it too similar to one of my other bikes though. 😉

Is the chubby rubber to aid the rigid cutlery up front? Looks pretty trippy, I think I like it. Also the towel rail, structural or aesthetic? I can’t tell whether you’ve a 29 or a 26 out back, it’s dwarfed by that house squasher on the front!

A very good question and the one that seems to get asked the most.

I’d say it was less draggy than the 2.5 super tacky than i have on my shitting dog.
So yes it is a bit draggy, but not as bad as other tyres out there.

It’s a bit of both.

still find it hilarious when folk ask about the tyres…i tell them its a bicycle
agree easier to ride than a 2.5″ sticky tyred bike (with or without 25L back pack)
love folk asking me if there slow,its always before you overtake them… 😆

Fat front worked well for me on the Trans Provence, although got to admit big forks would have been nice at times where v. Steep and rocky, particularly where rock steps numbered upwards of a hundred on. 7km downhill!!!

All the mountain staff were waiting for me to say it was all too hard.

I was running about 6 psi and whacked the rim quite a few times on big rocks but no flats 😆

It was awesome on the baby head rock paths/roads, just surfed over it all where the narrower tyres were tracking gaps.

Also it had fantastic front end grip under braking.

I think it has a place on the trail,

The feedback I got from a member of the mountain staff (all of whom were great by the way, and thats not sucking up, everyone on the event thought it was made by the people and you guys worked harder than us) was that it was expected I would find it all a bit hard and may well quit.

I didn’t say that you guys did not hope I wouldn’t give up (which was never going to happen, my ego wouldn’t have allowed it) :wink:,

I only had support, respect and encouragement from staff and competitors for carrying on riding (with hindsight) a slightly inappropriate, but enormous fun, bike!

So I unreservedly apologise macpuppy :oops:. I’m sorry if that statement pissed you off, por choice of words and the perfect example of where sentiment and tone is not always carried across as intended in the written word.

It was a bit bloody hard however, next time ‘ll do it on a full susser, and I hope and will try my best to make that next time, next year as it was an experience I will never forget and would like to repeat. 😀
