Why does it have to be so belligerent!
3 months ago the trackpad on my laptop stopped working.. Right when I had coursework due, of course.
For some reason, best known only to itself, it worked fine when on my lap (but not on a desk), when on battery power, or when leaned on hard on the front corner of the case, but not with an external mouse.. Fine, I thought. I can deal with this.. Soon after that the power connector became dodgy, from all the plugging and unplugging I guessed... I did the old tongue test on the plug, and there was definitely voltage, so I took the motherboard out, resoldered the power socket, and cleaned the trackpad connector and put it all back together.. But nope.. Still broken. New laptop time thought I..
So off down to the sales I went.. 350 notes down and a new ASUS laptop came home with me. And so did a new multimeter, as I've got to find out what's up with my car electricals... Now I stated using the new lappy, and chucking programs and all my stuff on to it, and I thought, why don't I put this meter on the old power supply and see what it's up to? Sure enough.. there's 20V but it's intermittent, so chop chop, solder solder, tape tape, and it's back together and working... And what's this? My trackpad NOW F*&£ING WORKS??!!?? GAARRGH!!
So, STW.. My questions are..
1. Should I pay the £35 restocking fee and get my money back, or take the full £350 in a Curry's voucher for when my old laptop gives me shit again?
and 2. What on earth is my take home message from all of this?
