    Have an FSA crank – is it compat with Truvativ BB or Shimano external BB?

    Shimano.

    Truvative are unique. Everything else is pretty cross-compatible.

    nope i think you find that the shaft is ever so slightly bigger than Shimano etc.

    It'll be close enough to fool you into buying the bb shells, but too tight to assemble without resorting to a big hammer which will shag said new bearings.
