The hummus in my lunch today was slightly fizzy, has anyone else experienced this kind of oddness?

I assumed it had begun to ferment slightly and, intrigued by the odd taste/sensation, ate more of it than I perhaps should have…

Is a combination of very bad things, followed by sudden death imminent?

Yes, on a few occasions, never eaten much but it tastes unpleasant, no ill effects though. The shop bought stuff seems to turn very quickly.

I think you may need to keep an eye on yourself, houmus can be a problem once it’s off.

    don’t eat any taramosalata – you don’t want a double-dip recession.

I have in many pots that were within use-by and not suffered any ill effects. Usually Sainsburys for some reason.. I put it down to a production difference.

I think you are right and it ferments when it’s getting on a bit.
I’ve eaten it like that loads of times with no ill effects, but it doesn’t taste as good.

    Erm.. fermenting?

It’s olive oil, tahini, chick peas and sometime garlic and lemon juice.

If it was filled with yeast perhaps.

    I’d say it’s just “gawnowf”

Yeah, I’ve experienced it too. Bit odd, but no ill effects. I’ve had grapefruit served in a restaurant that was fizzy too. That was very strange (but quite enjoyable).

Some places put soda water in the mix to lighten it up……I asked them once.

I read that chick peas effervesce when mixed with semen.

So I’m sure you’ll be fine.
