I’ve just sent back my last couple of films to lovefilm and my current wish list is bare of anything that I particularly fancy watching.

I’ve got two to choose, what would you recommend?

it may help if you tell us what kind of films you like?

Last film I saw that I really enjoyed was Shutter Island, like films that keep me thinking/guessing. Quite like the look of Inception but they only have that as a watch online job which is no good for my tiny laptop monitor 🙁

I’ve been watching a lot of series recently, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Fringe, Invasion, Heros, Oz, so a bit out of touch with any good films that have come out recently.

to be fair most series are much better than films
    have you tried
    battlestar galactica
    the shield
    deadwood
    wire
    etc etc

I’ve raised the subject of Battlestar Galatica several times however Mrs Stayhigh isnt into it at all (which has more to do with it having spaceships in it then anything else I suspect). Likewise I quite liked the look of The Wire but again no dice.

Its nice to take a break from series though so thats why I was looking to get a couple of films.

    Moon is superb

just watched Fish Tank – really good, though maybe not your sort of thing (its a gritty UK drama set on an essex estate)

I’ve just tried to log into lovefilm to remind myself what else I have watched recently – but the site is down

It’s not a new film but I watched ‘The Prestige’ the other day and was pretty impressed with that.

District 9 is good if you haven’t seen it.

    Both wife-friendly

I remember reading about Moon, is that the one by David Bowies son?

Fish Tank looks quite good too, have just checked out trailer for it. I dont mind the odd brit grit flick but it can all a bit too Danny Dyer sometimes.

Just checking out trailer for The Fountain as I’ve seen the others you listed.

To be honest, you could do a lot worse than taking a look at the IMDB top 100 films, then renting some of the ones you haven’t seen. Worked for me!

I’ve seen District 9 & The Prestige, I quite liked The Illusionist as well.

Trailer for The Jacket looks good too so may well go for that and The Fountain.

woody2000; Good tip, will check out some more on there.

Edit: or maybe not as Lovefilm site still down…

yes Moon is directed by Zowie Bowie, or Duncan Jones as he now for some reason prefers to be called

Fish Tank is the polar opposite of a Danny Dyer film

edit – and talking of dire british films, don’t watch “Harry Brown” – absolute rubbish, all the cliches of the vigilante film intact. Obnoxious, Michael Caine should be ashamed of himself

Last film we really enjoyed was Gran Torino, Clint at his steely best!

If you like it then try Million Dollar Baby.

    Pans Labrynth
    The Wrestler

    Classic – True Romance

Danny Dyer – the latest one with Zombies in is is better than i expected. In fact its only Mr Dyer that lets it down.
    Human Traffic’s good though.

If you want a tv series we are enjoying Misfits. Early Doors & Spaced have to be watched at some point in your life.
