Following on from a thread about mtb films, what are your favourite ski vidz?

For me, Focused is one of the best ski films I’ve ever seen, has a really good segment from Shane Mcconkey and CR Johnson (both passed away now).

Another one is Claim, farely recent, amazing big mountain stuff.

EyeTrip is amazing for the urban and park type stuff. Some of the stuff you look at and think “how the hell??” 😯 .

Like a Lion is well worth watching, really good doc about the life of Tanner Hall. One of the biggest influential skiiers of recent times.

Not a ski movie but get The Art of Flight from iTunes, its freaking amazing, the cinematography is immense, and the tech they used to do it likewise. The camera can record 1000fps at 1920p.

Other than that, G.N.A.R is pretty funny, Sweetgrass productions’ Signatures is a fantastic backcountry film and I’m looking forward to their Solitaire film for this season. Theres another free one that I can’t think of at the moment.

Oh and Dendrite Studio’s – Out of the Shadows is very good and when I bought it they did it on a pay what you think its worth basis. Bought it twice cause I enjoyed it so much.

Check out: Freeskier’s Trailer Time for this seasons trailers.

Really looking forward to skiing this season, hopefully the snow will be better than last year!

We go to see the Warren Millar movies every year – they are always good on the big(ger) screen and with the crowd buzz after the event guys have worked us into a frenzy !!!

Won a smartphone in the raffle one year and sold it for £300+ on fleabay, which paid for some skis 🙂

Steep is very good indeed, more a documnetary than a succession of money shots set to music. Bill Briggs, Anselm Baud, Plake, Coombs, McConkey, Maclean…

Think you can get it in a double disc set on Amazon with Blizzard of Aaahs, which is also ace!

    And another vote for G.N.A.R.

The Art of Flight is out already? Woohoo!

My favourite snowboard films are still the classics like Odd Man Out and Daytripper, wish I could find them on DVD…

Sorry to hijack a ski film thread but for those who like going sideways and especially anyone who has wakeboarded, this is amazing:

All of the matchstick ones are brilliant, and they tend to have a pretty awesome soundtrack too!

I think Level 1 are starting to take over MSP for quality of their flicks, (refresh, eyetrip being their best ones).

TGR have done some really good stuff over the past few years as well.

I’ve lost interest in the big movies now- great locations, lovely to look at and all, but they just don’t stir my blood. Doesn’t even seem like the same sport.

So, I’m posting a couple of self filmed/pov videos I really enjoyed. Possibly because they’re a bit reminiscent of a youth spent bumming on mountains, albeit with a lot less skill on my part.

The second guy has some great mtb’ing video as well.

Don’t really expect anyone to understand this..

    Maybe not a typical choice.
I love this. Not for the safety / instructional / scary bit, but for the first 40 secs or so.

Perfect conditions (ignoring the avalanche 🙂 ), the sun, the shadows and a top tune.

It just makes me want to ski.

I don’t have a favourite as such, but we used to watch the old Warren Millar films, where the newbies are getting off the chair lifts and it’s all been speeded up, very funny.
Anything with deep, thick fluffy powder and great scenery it fine by me.

‘Blue sky powder days’ – bring them on.

Steep is awesome for the early stuff particularly Stefano De Benedetti’s descent of the Aiguille Blanche. Truely a man ahead of his time. A ‘leetle superman’ as he says.

I lost interest in it when it started with all that Yank ‘you shred dude’ crap

It’s a snowboard vid and a few years old, but “That’s it, that’s all” is a great film.

    nbt, that is AWESOME!

Having skied with http://annaturney.blogspot.com/ I can only praise the amazing skill, resilience and heart of disabled skiers!

She was waaaay, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than me!

    Again, AWESOME!
