Where will be best for a couple of days riding – with an 11 year old more mincey than his father, so maybe Sherwood Pines Blue level, and a 7 year old who can maybe do 5-6 miles of green level routes.

And somewhere a non-riding spouse can kill some time while we are riding – or possibly go for a gentle jog.

All tips and pointers gratefully received.

5 mins along the road from Peebles.

Loads of options.

Might be worth driving up to the Buzzards Nest car park & session the pump track for a while to get a feel for the place.

A great time will be had by all – Guaranteed.

Glentress blue is great, start from the Buzzards nest not the centre though for the 7 year old.

Glentress is a step up from Sherwood – not least there are climbs, good climbs, but big uns for kids.

Ours just stepped up to the mark when we moved up – our 8 year ld loves the snoopy blues at GT and the 10 and 12 now rattle spooky woods etc.

Get it into their heads it is bigger and steeper, and get training them now…

Drive to the top car park at GT and do the green/skills/freeride area – great for the 7 year old – don’t forget Berm Baby Berm.

Cycle path from Inners to Peebles for a pootle.

Non riding spouse – jog on cycle path / Peebles and walk by the river/ Traquair House if that’s her thing or Kailize gardens

Would Glentress be rideable from Peebles for the older one – is the A72 the only option to get out there? He can easily cover quite a few flat miles, just need to adjust that to shorter hilly routes, then MrsMC and the little one could join us there by car?

There is a route offroad that takes you to the skills area i believe.

There is an offroad route to the skills area but it’s the nastiest climb in the place. Just ride along the pavement beside the A72 it’s what everyone else does.

Yes you can. The new cycle path takes you. You will need to join it after the turning for The Hydro as you leave Peebles – next left. Follow it along (Ignore the switchback climb up to the left)and keep going through the tunnel. You will eventually take a left that brings you out at the road opposite the entrance to GT. Suitable for the little one (Get him to ride on the pavement where necessary to get out of town) and your wife.

If you carried on you would get to Inners

The switchback climb to the left I mentioned ^ is Janet’s Brae – that is a climb that takes you to the top car park at GT – FYI
