My Dremel (400 digi) justed flashed blue and started smoking. Now when you power it up it just makes a dull sound but nothing rotates. Any thoughts? I’m going to have to resort to the iffy hacksaw in the mean time.

Ah yes, unplug it, and plug it back in again whilst rotating the chuck to and fro. It’ll enter diagnostic mode, where you can use the switch to enter the code to reset to factory settings. Sounds like it’s gone into temporary safety mode after detecting a possibly dangerous situation, so this should cure it.

    🙄

It’s a motor connected to the mains. If there’s a blue flash and smoke, it’s buggered! Burned out, failed, dead, an ex-Dremmel if you will. You might be able to take it apart and re-wind the motor or something but that’d be a right old faff.

Could be the speed controller or the brushes, unlikely to be anything else – they’re fairly simple beasts but as molgrips says, it’s probably more expensive to fix than buy a new one.

They tend to be sprung brushes, if ones had a wee great escape moment then normally reseating them sorts it.

Be very careful and dont have it plugged in when you open it.
