that's a 5!
That depends on if the observer sees you do it or not.

PAH! And double PAH! Trials folk. I'm not talking about trials, nothing so geeky as that. Just you know when you're out with your mates & you're trying to get a section clean. Hit a dodgy route or whatever & grab/touch a tree for balance but keep riding. So none of your mates make it without dabbing proper but you make it after your brief contact with the tree does it still count?
And well as to the 5 thing. My read on that is for putting a hand down on the ground not touching an upright/vertical/tree.

you've answered your own question!
fail, sorry.

Even when riding by myself i'll tell myself i cheated by even leaning against a tree with my shoulder so a hand is definitely cheating.

yeah that's a dab, even if it's just with mates.

Don't listen to 'em, with their city 'rules' and all that. If you want to hug a tree to give the All-Mother thanks for the wonders of Nature mid-ride then do it. It's not a dab, it's worship.

Look deep within yourself Frank - I think you know the answer.
Now get up there and do it again until you can do it right.

He's looked deep within himself already.
He got an answer he didn't like so asked on here hoping to be contradicted.

It's known as a Northshore dab, using hands or elbow, shoulder etc. Originating from Vancouvers mental North shore trails. Dabs a dab whatever you use.
