I got the old hi fi separates dug out from the spare room and got it successfully wired up and playing - NAD, Dual, Monitor/ Audio 25yr old system (god I am getting old!).
After much persuasion the old Dual turntable crackled into life (literally, with much sparking and smells of hot electrics sparking until the turntable moved).
Both son and Daughter looking in wonder as this big flat disc of plastic could be spun around and a needle could convert a groove of plastic with an imprint of a recording into great music.
Yes I know the i-pod on its docking station downstairs can pump out better quality music but there is something about sticking an old album onto the turntable and listening to it (scratches, crackles and all) that is therapeutic.
Now to dig out all those old albums
