Does anyone here have experience of Freeride Cycles in Disley, particularly with regards to custom builds and aftersales service?

No and we’re local.
I’ve only been in once and there were 2 women in there, who didn’t seem to know a lot about bikes but to be fair, maybe they were just sitting in during lunch hour.

Jon @ Bicycle Smithy (A6 Hazel Grove) is our preferred choice.

I’ve popped in a couple of times when passing through (not local) and found the staff helpful and knowledgeable, although they didn’t have what I was after on either occasion. Seemed nice enough though.

Been in a couple of times, wasn’t that impressed. Bike Factory in Whaley Bridge is alright, Sett Valley Cycles have a good reputation too.
EDIT: I’m local too.

Used them a couple of times for wheel and brake service. Very friendly and helpful. Did a great job.
