I have 6 70W SON floodlights on a 10A typeB breaker controlled by a photocell. I rarely get all 6 lights working, the lamps that don't come on just flicker arcing but failing to stay on. One fitting is new, the rest where already there some not working. 5 of the lamps are new and fine.
The circuit tests out fine, the bits I can test anyway. This is very bizarre, me no comprende, anybody have any answers?

It sounds like you are mixing up external/internal ignitor fittings/lamps.
Son light fittings can have internal or external ignitors. The fittings should have I for internal or E for external written on them somewhere and the bulbs will have the same. You need an I son lamp for an I fitting and so on.
