Microwave just made electrical burning smell and a bit of smoke came out of the inside when the door was opened.
unplugged it, left it for a bit...
Just tried putting a cup of water in in for 20 seconds and it seemed to work OK.
What do we reckon?
A) It magically repaired itself? Or
B)time to throw it out?
Dunno.
I had one once which I left on for quite a while with nothing in it - only realised when it started making horrible noises and smoke poured out of. Tried it out the next day and it was fine.
Wouldn't want to advise what you do with yours though. 
The seal is probably beginning to go at the door. Would not be surprised if there's scorch marks somewhere near the seal. I have had similar issues in the past.
I would bin it or prepare to. Start looking for a replacement but don't let it out of your site if you use it again.
