    what does the "D" stand for in the title?

    Although I have no doubt the explanation given in the link is correct, ie, the D stands for the "Day" itself, as the H in H-Hour, there were many who considered the term 'D-Day' a particularly appropriate name/label for the eventual Allied invasion of Occupied Europe, as it would/could also stand for "Disembarkation Day" – bearing in mind that there was for months a huge invasion force waiting to be landed from ships onto the occupied beaches.
