Good ad, challenging some anti social behaviours. Not everyone does it but enough do.

Really aracer? or sarcasm...
The other thread is about somebody doing something legal, this is about people who are not - I know it's a minority and it's top gear but swap it out for drink driving or using a mobile.

When Top Gear starts promoting responsible driving, then I might pay some attention.
Until then they can **** off.

Are you shitting us mike?

Where's the jokey videos about not speeding, not using a mobile while driving, driving safely generally?

Those actions kill cyclists. Cyclists RLJing annoys drivers.

Get some balance.

I guess you don't know any cyclists killed by a driver then.

Yep and RLJ has killed and injured pedestrians, it's shown out of context if there were some done in a similar way about the other things it would be good.

If we're going to take this seriously and get dragged in by the troll, more to the point where are the jokey videos about drivers RLJ? I did wonder whether anybody had taken that video and directly replaced cyclist with driver. Because the last stats I saw, more drivers than cyclists RLJ.

Oh and Mike, link to a ped being killed (or even injured) by a RLJ cyclist?

It seems to be standard practice for cars to jump red lights now. I find this a bit irritating that cyclists get all the stick for this.

I just find this advert more proof that Top Gear is a load of rubbish and not for me.

I found it funny at the time, and think it's funny watching it again.

But y'know, froth at the mouth and muster up some indignation if it makes you feel better!

Is this London village you are talking about? See very little RLJing by anyone up here in the north. The most common traffic light misdemeanors are: encroaching on the advanced stop zone and not indicating left.

Not sure where up north is for you, but in Newcastle and Northumberland I see RLJing all the time.

The most common kind, rolling through an amber when you could have easily stopped, happens so often now that people think you're just being pedantic if you point out that it is a crime.

so do I, usually taxis, white vans and the occasional bus ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
I have run a few on my bike too, or started early, to get away from motorists that don't indicate mostly...

It's small town/reasonably rural round me so perhaps folk aren't as bad. Depending on my route to work I go through between 14 and 30 sets of traffic lights and/or pedestrian crossings both morning and night. In the last year I've seen three cyclists RLJ and can't remember if I've seen any motor vehicles RLJ.

You are permitted to go through amber lights if you are so close when they change to amber that stopping would likely cause an accident.

Sorry I was talking about the advert in the OP too, and Al and aracer as the rabid haterz.

No. I live in north west England and it's common practice everywhere. Lights change, car speeds up to get through no matter what. Or decides there is no reason to be waiting and just goes anyway. To be honest, I see cars doing it much more than cyclists and it's certainly far more dangerous.

I'm with njee on this. It was intended as a joke and I'm sorry so many people can't see it that way, although I agree it would be better if there was another version targeting bad driving habits as well.

Before someone asks, two cyclists I know have been killed in road accidents over the years. I lost two friends, not my senses of perspective and humour.

I wonder whether I'd be a rabid hater if I complained about a joke video about blacks or women or homosexuals?

And before you wrote that, you though about it and decided..."that's a direct comparison surely, yep, I'll go with that!" ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

You are indeed. But that should be a pretty rare event.

Yet at almost every set of traffic lights I see someone drive through on amber or "just turned red", even if they had plenty of time to stop and there was no one behind them. In fact as traildog says, they'll often accelerate when the light goes amber to make it through before red.

No you're right, because unlike cyclists they're not valid out groups to abuse.

Aracer - depends if the video was about an aspect of their behaviour that was illegal or anti-social, rather than mocking them for being gay, black, female or whatever.

So it would be acceptable to directly replace the cyclist with a black woman?

Weird, I missed the abuse part. I saw them taking the piss out of a stereotypical activity, which happens to be illegal.

Are you familiar with the film Four Lions? What about South Park? I suggest you never watch either, they adopt a similar stance, I genuinely think you'd have a heart attack.

If black women stereotypically ran red lights or whatever, then of course.

But I'm not aware of such behaviour from that demographic, your experience may be different. Just because someone is part of a minority does not mean you cannot criticise their behaviour in a light hearted manner if that behaviour is illegal or potentially dangerous.

Feel I need to take a deep breath before I inadvertently type "it's political correctness gone mad" ๐Ÿ˜•

In the same way that most RLJ are car drivers then? Or is it the case as Nick alludes that it's fair game to take the piss out of minorities for inaccurate stereotypes?

Being a frequent cyclist but also a car owner, as I am, is that equivalent of being in a mixed-race relationship? I'd never thought of myself as being that liberal before.

Last 3 months I've nearly been hit from behind 3 times when I stopped at amber lights. The last time I got berated by the driver for stopping - ignoring the fact that if I hadn't taken avoiding action and got off the road before he ran over me, that I wouldn't have been alive to berate...

I'm quite happy to have a sense of humour failure over Top Gear's stance for as long as they continue to perpetuate the myth that only people on bikes break the law... especially given that I pay for the BBC out of my post-tax income...

My personal view is that you should be able to take the piss out of anyone or any group for doing something wrong.

I did state that it would be nice to see similar videos having a go at bad drivers, but the stereotypical keyboard warriors seem to have missed this due to a combination of red mist and mouth frothing ๐Ÿ˜‰

Red mist? Mouth frothing? Because here is my first post, suggesting exactly the same as you do, which got me accused of being a rabid hater.

Not by me, though the words "rabid" and "mouth frothing" do have a certain ring ๐Ÿ™‚
