    hi im trying to do some back up discs for the laptop using the back up programme on my hp laptop but im now on my 6th cd and it doesnt seem to be getting anywhere looks like i’ll need about 20 discs . so where am i going wrong 😉

    using CD’s instead of DVD’s?
    An Xp image can be anywhere from 2gb, just after loading, to easily 4-6GB’s in size, hense you need to back it up to DVD rather than CD..

    Also you could switch off the “system restore” option whilst you do the backup, this will remove a fair amount of excess baggage – remember to switch it back on afterwards.

    ah right bugger. i nearly bought dvds instead. would it work to an external drive ?

    Get an external hard drive. They are cheap as chips.

    Also get Norton Ghost 10. It has an auto backup utility and runs incremental backups. Incremental backups just look at what has changed since the last backup, so the process is much quicker and does’t slow your system down for so long.
