    Do you like having large splinters of wood removed from your face? If not, I’d give it a miss.

    Haha, I was thinking about oak that had been whitened. Splinters wouldn’t be a super big issue as long it was varnished.

    Ouch ouch okay I take it back, ouch
    So you guys think it’s a solidly bad idea?

    Yeah we mean, impact and shattering or bar failure type splinters.

    It could make you look like something out of Master and Commander.

    At least the other types of bars that splinter (carbon) are tested in laboratory conditions (mostly).

    Yes, solidly bad idea. I’d take more of a punt on bamboo but I still wouldn’t risk it.

    Initially I thought daft idea. Then I thought about the recent thread on the long bows.

    You could get a layered bar designed to flex for comfort that bends in the same way a long bow does with the layers of wood.

    Yeah that would actually be interesting to try out.

    I’d want a proper bow maker to make it and then have it stress tested though :mrgreen: Although I guess longbows are pretty damn strong!

    Quite a nifty idea actually, I must say. Possibly should have kept that to yourself!

    Funnily enough, I saw this today:

    I wouldn’t use oak – rattan might be better, more shock absorbing and less likely to fracture.

    My old design tech teacher went on a long-bow making course, I ask him if it’s possible today, let y’all know the response. : )

    Edit;
    Omg I just found Risers
