brought cross check into the house as going away for the week and noticed the paint at the bb and downtube is bubbled and flaking off in some places. Guess it’s inevitable when the garage is pretty damp but is it worth a respray to protect the frame?

Not worth the cost of a respray. Live with it and enjoy riding a bike that carries the honourable scars and signs of good honest work.

Hmmm I know what you mean but also not that keen on snapping a frame mid ride

Whats it made of? If its aluminium then it’ll develop a layer of sacrificial corrosion that will protect the surface. No chance of it failing.

    Rockhopper – that’s a Surly Cross Check, so it’s a steel frame.

Your fire place surround could do with a polish.

Right, well maybe on of those rust cure treatments (or some vinegar) then some plain white enamel over the top.

Respray is what, £60? Is that worth peace of mind?
