Looking to connect laptop (DVI) to new tv (hdmi) to watch iplayer etc. Is there a particular type of DVI to HDMI cable I should be looking for or will any one do? Also can’t figure out whether the sound will transfer through this or not?

    Cheers Dan

I don’t think it will include audio. I’m using VGA from a media PC to a TV and as well as the VGA cable I’ve got a 3.5mm? plug from the PC speaker port to the TV.

HDMI to DVI will not give you sound.
HDMI is just DVI video signal plus sound, going back to DVI from HDMI will mean loosing the sound.
So you will need to connect sound from your audio out.

What richmars said but also some new graphics will output audio over dvi as well…

but forget all that, if you have a spare £100 and use bbc iplayer alot and have a fast internet connection then buy a sony bdps370
amazing bit of kit for the money

DVI doesn’t do sound. You’ll need a seperate sound cable, that is if your telly has audio inputs. Alternative is wire the sound to your hifi if it’s practical. A 3.5mm – RCA cable should do that job well enough.
