Morning all, I've got back into running and to help my ageing body all I can I'm tempted to try a cold bath after a session, as I've heard it aids recovery. Anyone tried it and do you need to add ice or will the cold tap do.

Never tried cold baths except for injuries, but have you tried the recovery drinks like SIS Rego? Theres loads of different makes, but i find the Rego works well for me and my legs dont feel as bad the next day if i use it.

Done immediately after a very intensive session there's some benefit for pro level athletes, it needs to be prompt and icy though!
For normal human beings doing normal exercise the benefits are dubious, to say the least.

Yep, regularly do after hard sessions or races. Ice ideally but v cold tap water works well.
Alternating hot and cold in your shower is a good way to do it too.Posted 2 years ago # -

When the GF pranged her shoulder, the physio told her to cold shower or ice-pack it after every exercise session. And then went on to suggest that cold showering is also beneficial to muscle recovery and mental well-being!
I normally have warm showers but then spray my legs with cool/cold water which is invigorating if nothing else. Mind where you aim tho, ice cold water on the scrote is not so pleasant.

I'll stick with a nice big mug of tea with toast & mamalade if it's all the same. After an intensive ride all my body and brain wants to do is ahhh and r e l a x.

well of course they did. Physios are professionals. Who know stuff about physiology, and science. You can either listen to them, or to fvcktards on an internet forum.

Well I tried it, legs feel ok, hard to say if legs feels "better". I'll try everything I can at the mo'; warmups/downs, stretching, "proper" recovery food, etc, etc. Tell you what though losing weight way quicker than riding.
